Guided Imagery at GHSS Cheruthuruthy: A Journey Through Mindfulness and Learning

As part of a Ph.D. research project in Education under NSS Training College, Ottapalam, a unique and enriching experimentation phase was conducted at GHSS Cheruthuruthy from 17th June to 21st July. With special permission from the DEO, Chavakkad, the study aimed at integrating socio-emotional learning strategies into the teaching-learning process of the English first unit ‘Hours and Years’ for the students of Class 9.

 Research Design and Groups

The experimental setup involved two groups:

  • Class 9G served as the experimental group

  • Class 9E functioned as the control group

While the control group followed the regular curriculum, the experimental group experienced a refreshing shift — daily mindfulness exercises and socio-emotional enrichment activities were seamlessly woven into their English lessons.

 Daily Mindfulness Practices

Every day began with calming mindfulness activities such as:

  • Breathing Exercises

  • Body Scan

  • Guided Imagery Sessions

Specially designed guided imagery techniques like Candle Visualization , Color Visualization were conducted, which helped students gently transition into a space of inner calm and focus before the academic instruction began.

👉 Watch the video below to experience a glimpse of these guided imagery sessions conducted with the students of 9G.
